THE WHL RESPECT IN HOCKEY PROGRAM

The Western Hockey League (WHL) has announced a series of enhancements to its Respect in Hockey and Security Network programs. The Respect in Hockey program, which was fully implemented in the 2020-21 season, is mandatory for all WHL personnel and includes online seminars, Respect Champion workshops, and Respect in Sport certifications. The Security Network is responsible for ensuring a safe and respectful environment for WHL players. The Leadership Conference, held every two years, provides professional development seminars and education programs for WHL general managers, coaches, and hockey operations personnel. The 2022 WHL Leadership Conference focused specifically on enhancing the player experience through respect education, player safety, and staff professional development. Lisa Evanoff, formerly of the Canadian Red Cross, will join the WHL as the Senior Advisor of the Respect in Hockey Program effective November 1.

BUILDING A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL PLAYERS

The Respect in Hockey course is an important educational resource for players, coaches, and officials in the sport of hockey. The course aims to promote positive behavior, sportsmanship, and respect among players, coaches, and officials, as well as to help prevent abuse, harassment, and bullying. It provides participants with the knowledge and tools they need to create a safe and inclusive environment in which everyone can enjoy playing the game.
